Pachmarhi Bus Tickets

Pachmarhi is located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. It is a well-known hill station. Since British rule, the city has been a cantonment area. Pachmarhi is also known as the “Queen of Satpura” or “Satpura Ki Rani”. Located in a valley of the Narmadapuram district in the Satpura range, it is at the height of 1067 m.

The name of this town is believed to be derived from two Hindu words: Panch, meaning “five”, and Marhi, meaning “caves”. During the thirteen years of their exile, the five Pandavas of Mahabharatha is believed to have built these caves. The caves provide an excellent vantage point and are located on a hilltop.

Before the Marathas came into the city of Pachmarhi in the 18th century, it was ruled by the Bhonsale Kings. After this, King Gond Bhagavat Singh took over the place. It was not a very populated town at that time. In 1857, Subhedhar Major Nathoo Ramji Powar, along with the Captain of the British Army, James Forsyth, took over the place. This place turned from a mere plateau to a sanatorium for the British troops.

Pachmarhi was also the summer capital for the central provinces, and its population rose to double that summer from about 3,020 people in 1901. The forest that surrounds Pachmarhi flourished very quickly and became home to wide rare varieties of plants. In May 2009, Pachmarhi was added to the list of Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO.
